Airlines eye more onboard advertising

advertisement

As airline passengers grow wary, and perhaps weary, of the more fees and higher ticket prices, some U.S. carriers may look to onboard advertisements as a way to raise revenue without further tapping customers' wallets and patience.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Gross. I don't want to feel like I am sitting on a city bus when I fly. I know the airlines are drowning financially, but this is ridiculous.

Tray tables eh? Well, last time I flew US Airways, I didn't even open my tray table. Why? They charge $2 for a soda!

I think it's a great idea. If you don't want to see the ads, just take a nap or read a book like everyone else on the plane does.

Whatever keeps the ticket price down is good news to me.

Oh why not. Advertising permeates every possible aspect of our lives as it is, why not fill the plane with them too?

After all, in America it's illegal to have a publicly visible surface that's not advertising something.

Why is it the only industry that is NOT hurting by the economy is the ADVERTISING industry..

Or how many people have lost their jobs because, we do not have funds to pay the employees, but we got tons of money to advertise!!!!

            From above:  How true

Pay toilets come next after the advertising on luggage bins and barf envelopes.

Several years ago I flew on a couple of domestic flights in China and the seat back in front of me had an ad on it.  It was just in black lettering with a logo so it wasn't too annoying, especially since I couldn't read what it said.  I had a computer, so fortunately I didn't have to stare at it except during takeoff and landing.  Knowing the US airlines they'll probably take it way too far and put ads on everything possible, even the window shades, cockpit door, etc.  Next thing you know there will be a commercial pitch before the flight safety demonstration and the flight attendents will wear uniforms with logos all over them like NASCAR drivers or European soccer players.

If it keeps down the price of a ticket, why not.

If it keeps down the price of a ticket, why not.  We don't have to read them.
